Pre-treatment Washers

KMI's pretreatment washers remove dirt, oils, greases and/or light oxidation from steel, galvanized steel, aluminum or plastic parts.  This prepares part surfaces for a strong bond to accept the applied coating.  These cleaning machines can be designed to treat part surfaces with many different chemistries.

Parts can be conveyed through the washer several ways:

  • Wire mesh conveyors
  • Slat-type belt conveyors
  • Monorail or power & free conveyors
  • Indexing hoist conveyors

Typically, these machines are configured with 1 to 9 stages and heated by natural gas, steam, hot water or electricity.

KMI custom designs each pretreatment washer to fit the customers' needs.  Whether the requirements call for high levels of filtration or unique materials of construction, KMI has the experience and knowledge to get the job done right.

Continuous conveyor speeds ranging from 3 to 60+ fpm are common as well as batch-type indexing systems for very large parts and/or low production volume parts.

KMI also has experience in the new single stage pretreatment systems.  While these systems are similar to the traditional pretreatment systems, there are unique specifications that need to be considered.  KMI can walk you through the entire process and show you the pit falls and benefits of these systems.

Sludge Removal

Automatic phosphate sludge removal equipment can be furnished to reduce cleanup labor and disposal costs. Filtration and oil removal equipment can also be included with pre-treatment machines as well as parts washers.

Environmental Components

To remove dirt particles from the cleaner stage(s), bag-type filtration is utilized to reduce nozzle and tank cleanup and maintenance costs. To remove oil and grease from both the cleaning and rinse stages, equipment is utilized that extends cleaner life and reduces both water consumption and waste treatment costs.
